Matcheri Keshavan, MD

Dr. Keshavan is a Program Advisor to the Response To Risk program and Academic Head of the Harvard Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Matcheri Keshavan’s expertise is in the diagnosis and management of young adults with severe mental illness including psychotic and mood disorders. He has nearly 30 years of experience as a clinical psychiatrist.

Academic: Dr. Keshavan is a licensed physician and board-certified psychiatrist, and is Professor of Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC), the Public Psychiatry Division of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). He is also on the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh. He has spent the last 20 years investigating the causes and treatments of psychotic disorders. His research has resulted in over 350 publications to date, including over 270 peer-reviewed papers, and three books. He has received several awards including the Gaskell Gold Medal of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (1985), Nancy Roschke Certificate for teaching excellence of the American Psychiatric Association in 1993, the Golden Apple Award for Teaching at the Department of Psychiatry in 1992, 1994 and 2004, the Research Scientist Development Award from NIMH and the 2003 NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness of Pennsylvania) Psychiatrist of the Year Award. He is a distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Canada and a Fellow of the Royal college of Psychiatrists, UK.
